How to Prevent Getting “Stuck” and Unable to Leave After Ukrainian Surrogacy

There was recently an article about an Australian couple that was stuck in Ukraine for over 6 months because they couldn’t get all their documents in order.

The problem is NOT Ukraine or Ukrainian adoption. It has to do with preparation and the agency and/or clinic you use.

No matter what country you live in, no matter what your nationality, it is essential that you understand if your agency will be assisting you with all the documentation for your newborn to exit the country. While you are doing this, make sure this service is not at an extra cost. We suggest you double check with your country and know all the steps involved BEFORE starting the surrogacy process. In this case, the Australian couple was unprepared and had serious problems getting the necessary documentation on their own.

In some many countries, like the UK, for example, involvement of your agency and an immigration lawyer up front can save you time in country, lots of headache and money.

Under Ukrainian law, surrogacy is a legal affordable option for traditionally married couples to have children using their own embryos, or with either an egg or sperm donor.
